Last week was the last week of regular class schedule and field trips and I decided to go with the Flamenco and Zarzuela class. I still have yet to see a Flamenco show which I'm kinda sad about but that's why I went with them to the guitar shop. The shop has been open for 100 years and is run by the same family, with every man in the family named Mariano. The guitars are absolutely beautiful. The shop is so tiny but it's so well known across the world. A man in Australia shipped wood to the store to have a guitar made and Ed Sheeran came to get his guitar made as well which is pretty cool.
Thursday wasn't the traditional field trip day because we took a group trip to Segovia. It's a traditional medieval city, similar to Toledo. They have an aqueduct dating back to the 1st century and it goes throughout the city with a half mile of it open, the rest is buried under the city. It's the city's icon and it is ginormous! We walked throughout the city and on the opposite side was the Alcázar which dates back to the 12th century. The castle is so beautiful but a lot smaller than the past ones I have visited, which could just have been the tour we were on.
One big thing I will miss is the drinks! The beer from Spain sucks but since we're in Europe there's beer bars that have different countries' beers like Belgium which has great beer and Germany and such. Whenever you order a beer, they bring you little tapas. At the last beer bar we went to there was a combination of veggie sticks, bugles, cheese puffs, pork rinds, popcorn, corn nuts, and peanuts. That has been one big thing to adjust to but I know I'll be waiting for a snack next time I order a beer at Gnats. At any restaurant I've gone to I've gotten tinto de verano which is lemonade and red wine. In Valencia they gave us calimocho which is red wine and coke which is much better than you would expect. I never have been much for wine but I definitely found my favorite wine - cava which is sparkling wine and it's so good! It's kind of like a champagne version on wine.
I spent my last weekend in Madrid. Friday night we went to Kapital which is a 7 story club, each floor with different music. It's a 20 euros entry which includes one drink or 25 euros including 2 drinks. We got there about 1:30/2 AM and stayed for a few hours and it was pretty cool. Still blows my mind how late Spaniards stay out but hey it was an experience. The next day I definitely felt it and didn't leave my room until about 7 o'clock and went to dinner. Sunday we went to the Rastro which is the flea market that takes place every Sunday morning. It was huge and went on street after street. Needless to say, I'll probably go back this Sunday.
I am still so surprised at how fast the past 5 and a half weeks has flown by. It's hard to believe that in just 10 days I'll be back in Statesboro preparing for classes to start. I can definitely say it is bittersweet knowing that I'll be back in the peach state of mind in just less than a week. I know I'll miss Spain when I come home but right now I miss my friends and family... and my car. Excited to see you all soon!
